Crow Creek Ranch

Terrain: Varies considerably, the northern portion has canyons with bluffs and trees that rise up from the valley floor. With canyons, rolling hills and fairly sharp ridges, the elevation on the ranch varies from approximatly 1930 feet at Crow Creek to just over 2200 feet at some of the ridges on the ranch.

 Farming: There are 3 irrigation wells on this ranch providing water for 1 circle sprinkler system (an 80 acre Reinke sprinkler), and a side row sprinkler. The side row sprinkler waters alfalfa hay. There are three fields of 27+- acres, 18+- acres, and 80+- acres.

Carrying Capacity: The terrain and types of vegetation throughout the ranch works well with a cow/calf operation. With the irrigation system and winter wheat and hay grazer, the ranch can easily accommodate 130 animal units.

Fishing: The lakes are stocked with bass, channel cat and perch. The three larger bodies of water are estimated to be 15+-acres, 5+-acres and 2.5 acres. They have produced a number of large fish including 8 pound bass and 35 pound catfish.

Access/Easements: Access is from County Road 190.

Improvements: Built with a commanding view of the entire China Grove valley is a lodge encompassing 6400 square foot of heated and air conditioned space. This new lodge includes a 1500 square foot living room with fireplace, large kitchen and dining room, a nice size master suite, and a utility room which includes a half-bath. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a 48x22 foot game room and 2 bonus sleeping rooms. Outside a continuing roof line protects an 8 foot, 1140 square foot wrap-around porch. Located about 100 yards behind the new lodge is a new 72x156 (11,232 sqf) foot barn built by Cover-All Corporation. A lake house, located on the bank of one of the upper acre lakes, is an efficient 900 square foot house complete with living room, fireplace, kitchen, one large bedroom and a bathroom. The front porch covers the width of the house. The lake house has its own water well and the Greenbelt Electric Co-op furnishes power.

Historic China Grove School House: The ranch was named after the old school house on the property that was built in the late 1800's for the homesteader's children in the area. It was the typical one room school with a small room in the back for the teacher. A cistern caught rain water for the use of the school house. A storm cellar was dug in the back for use during bad storms. This school house was built out of red brick and today is a standing testament of our strong forefathers and mothers of yesterday. There were Comanche Indians roaming the Panhandle of Texas before ranchers and farmers came west. Old Indian campgrounds with a few scattered arrowheads have been found.
